Mindi is an Arizona native who grew up in Mesa and is a graduate of Mountain View High School, where she was a three-year varsity volleyball player. She continued her volleyball career at Arizona State University, competing for three seasons from 1995–1997.
In 1997, Mindi married her husband, Dave, and together they built a growing family that now includes five children, three wonderful spouses, and soon to be five grandchildren. Volleyball has always been a central part of their lives, with each of their five children having played or are currently playing the sport at a high level.
Over the years, Mindi and her family have been fortunate to be part of several outstanding volleyball clubs throughout the Valley. Those experiences helped shape their vision for what they believed youth volleyball could be: highly competitive while also fostering positivity, character, and a genuine love for the game.
That vision became a reality in 2025 with the founding of Maverick Volleyball Academy. Mindi is passionate about developing athletes both on and off the court, creating an environment where players are challenged to reach their potential while families feel valued and supported. Her goal is to provide Arizona athletes with a competitive, positive, and enjoyable volleyball experience that builds confidence, teamwork, and a lifelong love for the sport.
Coach Jodee Abercrombie enters another season with Maverick Volleyball Academy bringing passion, energy, and a player-first coaching philosophy to the gym. With multiple years of club coaching experience at both the regional and national levels, JoJo has built a reputation for developing well-rounded athletes while creating a competitive, family-oriented team culture.
In addition to coaching with Maverick, JoJo coaches at Basha High School and will also be coaching with Magnitude Volleyball Club during the girls club season. Throughout her coaching career, she has helped athletes earn opportunities to compete at higher levels by emphasizing volleyball IQ, technical skill development, accountability, confidence, and resilience.
Known for her high-energy practices and genuine investment in every athlete, JoJo believes success is built through trust, discipline, and a relentless commitment to growth. She challenges her players to compete with purpose, support one another, and embrace adversity as part of the process.
Whether coaching boys or girls, her goal remains the same: to develop confident athletes, stronger teammates, and even better people.
I have over 10 years of volleyball coaching experience with both boys' and girls' programs, along with collegiate playing experience and time competing semi-professionally in the VLA with Phoenix Valor and Ascension.
As a personal trainer specializing in sports performance, strength and conditioning, weight loss, and rehabilitation, I take a holistic approach to athlete development. My passion is helping young athletes grow both on and off the court by building their skills, confidence, and character.
Whether their goal is to excel at the high school level or earn the opportunity to play in college, I am committed to providing the guidance and support they need to succeed in volleyball and in life.
I've been involved in volleyball for more than 20 years as both a player and coach, and I love helping athletes grow in the sport. My coaching experience spans club, high school, and college volleyball — including Arizona Sky Volleyball, Club One Volleyball, Maverick Volleyball, Chandler High School, North Canyon High School, Seton Catholic High School, Mountain Ridge High School, and Park University.
One of the highlights of my career was leading Seton Catholic's boys team to the 2016 Arizona State Championship and being named Arizona Boys Volleyball Coach of the Year. While I'm proud of those accomplishments, what I enjoy most is helping players build confidence, develop strong fundamentals, compete as great teammates, and discover a lifelong passion for volleyball.
I'm excited to continue that journey with every athlete I have the opportunity to coach.
Micah is entering his 16th year coaching volleyball. A former professional player, he currently suits up for a semi-pro team as a libero/setter for the Phoenix Valor in the VLA.
Known for his laid-back, sarcastic style and tactician's mindset, Micah emphasizes flashy, fun, high-energy volleyball while still demanding smart, disciplined play. He has coached every age group from 12U through adult men's and women's teams, helping athletes develop strong fundamentals, court awareness, and competitive fire.
Above all, he values self-motivated players who put the team first. Whether it's grinding through tough reps or lighting up the court with big plays, Micah creates an environment where boys work hard, play smart, and genuinely enjoy the game.
Coach Keitia is originally from Chicago, Illinois, where she started playing volleyball at the age of 8. Once in AZ she played volleyball at Perry High School. During her high school career, she also competed at the club level for EVJ, further developing her passion for the game. She went on to continue her volleyball career at Salem University in West Virginia, playing as an Outside Hitter.
Coaching experience includes being the Casteel High School JV Girls Head Coach, Benjamin Franklin High Frosh Girls Head Coach, Junior High Girls and Boys Head Coach, JV Boys Head Coach, as well as Varsity Boys Assistant Coach.
Club coaching experience includes Fortitude, Inferno, Ta'ahine, and currently Omni VBC, where she is the Head Coach of a 16s team, as well as Maverick Volleyball Academy, where she coaches the boys 14s team.
Known for being energetic, loud, and endlessly supportive, she is committed to helping players grow not only in skill, but in confidence, discipline, and love for the game.
Hi! I'm Portlyn, and I'm excited to be coaching with Maverick Volleyball Club this season!
I played volleyball for eight years as a libero, competing for Queen Creek High School (QCHS) and East Valley Juniors (EVJ) Club Volleyball. Last season, I coached a 14U girls team at Altitude Volleyball Club, and I quickly discovered how much I love helping athletes grow both on and off the court.
As a coach, my goal is to create a positive, competitive environment where players feel encouraged to work hard, build confidence, and support one another. I believe that strong fundamentals, teamwork, and a great attitude are the foundation for success, and I strive to make every practice both challenging and fun.
I'm looking forward to getting to know each player and family and can't wait for a great season with Maverick!
I have been involved with volleyball for 15 years. I'm an Arizona local — I played middle blocker at Mountain Pointe High School, then played college volleyball at Park University and Ottawa University.
I played three years in the VLA for Arizona Ascension and two years of international professional volleyball in Finland and Denmark. I specialize in blocking, hitting, serving, and sports psychology.
I have coached high school volleyball at Williams Field on the boys side and will be coaching on the women's side as well. I've coached four seasons of club volleyball at Rush and Aspire, and also have professional coaching experience with the 2nd-division professional team in Denmark.
Hello! I'm Tabitha and I'm excited to be coaching with Maverick.
I played volleyball competitively for six years as an outside/defense specialist at both Aspire and Club One Volleyball clubs. After my third year of club, I began my coaching journey as a junior coach at Club One. Over the years I've progressed from junior coaching to assistant coaching, gaining valuable experience and a deep passion for helping athletes develop both their skills and their love for the game.
I coach because I enjoy the opportunity to connect with athletes and help them grow, not only on the court but off the court as well. As a coach, I believe that hard work, fundamentals, and teamwork are what make a successful season.
